Situational Leader Effectiveness and Adaptability

The Leadership Effectiveness and Adaptability Description (LEAD) instrument was developed by the Center for Leadership Studies to assess the four leadership styles proposed by Hersey and Blanchard. The instrument also assesses the style range and adaptability of an individual. The purpose of this exercise is to evaluate your perception of your leadership style in terms of telling, selling, participating, or delegating, and to indicate whether the style is appropriate in various situations. Instructions
  • The following exercise should be performed individually.
  • Assume you are involved in each of the twelve situations. Each situation has four alternative actions you might initiate.
  • Read each item carefully. Think about what you would do in each circumstance. Then, circle the letter of the alternative action choice which you think would most closely describe your behavior in the situation presented.
  • Circle only one choice.
